International readers
Last updated: May 29, 2026
Shrinkopedia is written from a United States perspective, and most of what it describes reflects US clinical practice, regulation, and care systems. We're glad to have readers from anywhere, and we want to be clear about what that means for you.
What can differ by country
Mental health laws, the way care is organized and paid for, the treatments and therapies that are available, and the names, approvals, and dosing of medications all vary from country to country. A medication or treatment described here may have a different name where you live, may be regulated differently, or may not be available at all. Diagnostic categories and clinical guidelines can also differ between regions.
Crisis resources are US-specific
The crisis numbers we mention, including 988, are for the United States and won't work elsewhere. If you're outside the US and in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a local crisis line. If you're in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. See our crisis and safety resources for more.
What this means for you
Use Shrinkopedia for general understanding, not as a guide to what's available, legal, or recommended in your country. For care, diagnosis, and treatment decisions, consult a clinician licensed where you live, who can account for your local laws, options, and circumstances.
