Reuse and embedding
Some of what we make is meant to leave the site. Counselors hand our one page explainers to students, clinicians put diagrams in patient handouts, and researchers pull our data into their own work. This page says exactly what's free to use, under which license, and how to credit it.
Diagrams and one page explainers
The 39 explainers in the library, their printable PDFs and their diagrams are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
In practice that means you can print them, hand them out, post them on a school or clinic website, and put them in a newsletter or course pack, as long as it isn't for sale and you keep the credit. Every library page with a diagram has an "Embed this diagram" box with code you can paste straight into your site. The credit line is built into the image.
The one thing we ask you not to do is change them. These are reviewed clinical materials, and an edited copy with our name on it could say something we didn't. If you need a version adapted for your setting, ask us.
Open data
Our datasets are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). You can use them for anything, including commercial work and your own analysis, as long as you credit us.
- State of the evidence: the evidence rating on every entry (CSV, JSON).
- DSM-5-TR to ICD-11 crosswalk: codes for every condition on the site (CSV).
The ICD-11 codes and titles in the crosswalk come from the World Health Organization and the ICD-10-CM codes from the CDC. Our license covers our compilation and notes; the WHO and CDC terms still apply to their own material.

For formal citations, every page has a "How to cite this page" box with APA and MLA formats.
Everything else
Encyclopedia entries (conditions, symptoms, treatments and terms) aren't under an open license. You're welcome to link to them, quote short passages with credit, and share them with patients or students. Republishing whole entries needs written permission. The full terms are on our copyright page.
What reuse doesn't mean
Sharing our material doesn't mean Shrinkopedia, The Shrink Network or Dr. Refai endorses you, your practice or your product, so please don't present it that way. Nothing here is medical advice, and handouts don't replace an evaluation by a clinician who knows the person.
